Three months ago, I started a simple newsletter. No big plans, no grand vision—just a space to share my thoughts, improve my writing, and connect with others.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve already hit my first 1,000 subscribers. That’s wild. I didn’t expect this kind of growth, but here we are.
First off, thank you. If you’re reading this, you’re part of this journey. Your support, your time, and your feedback mean the world to me. I genuinely appreciate every single one of you.
Why I Started Writing
In 2023, I started thinking about building a professional blog. Writing had always been on my mind, but I finally took the leap in December 2024 when I launched my newsletter.
At first, I just wanted to improve my communication skills. But along the way, I realized something: to grow beyond the senior engineer level, you must learn to express your ideas clearly and simply.
Tech is full of complex ideas, but the best engineers—the ones who truly lead—know how to make things easy to understand. That’s when it hit me: writing isn’t just about words on a page; it’s about making ideas accessible.
My Biggest Takeaway So Far
Write like a 5th grader. Seriously. If your writing isn’t simple, it isn’t clear. I learned that the hard way.
Early on, I would pack my posts with jargon and long-winded explanations, thinking that made me sound smart. But the truth? People don’t have time for complicated writing. They want clarity. They want value. They want to walk away with insights they can use right away.
Now, I focus on making things as easy as possible:
Simple words
Short sentences
Real-world examples
Data points that back up my thoughts
This approach has changed everything for me.
What’s Next? A New Experiment
I love writing, and I want to take it further. Lately, I’ve been thinking about a new section for my newsletter—one that highlights stories from engineers around the world.
Here’s the plan: I’ll interview engineers, tech leaders, and startup founders from different companies, including Big Tech and emerging startups. Then, I’ll take their insights, strip away the fluff, and present them in a clear, concise format. Think of it like a 10-minute read packed with all the key takeaways—no need to sit through an hour-long podcast.
Why this idea? Simple. I got feedback from my readers that while many people love industry insights, they don’t always have time to listen to long podcasts. So, I want to bridge that gap—taking those rich, valuable conversations and turning them into digestible, high-impact posts.
Staying True to My Core Mission
Even with this new section, my core content isn’t going anywhere. I’ll still be sharing career insights, engineering lessons, and everything that helps us become “The True Engineer.” That mission remains unchanged.
Honestly, I’m just grateful I made the decision one random evening (08.12.2024) to buy the domain thetrueengineer.com and start writing. Three months in, and it already feels like one of the best decisions I’ve made.
To everyone who has been part of this journey—thank you.
Wish me luck in the comments below! It's a small action, but it means a lot to me.
Until next time,
Adlet
Keep going my friend.
